Because sometimes girls who look "straight", aren't.
“Straight”… But Not Narrow Ladies is an exclusive members only community of bi femme, bi curious, and queer women of color. While we don't push labels, we recognize they can be helpful and needed. Our members identify as bisexual, bi-curious, pansexual, hetero-flexible, queer, straight/heterosexual that "dabble" and the list goes on. The common denominator is bit more straight forward. Our members do not fit within a heteronormative box. They are black and brown women that like women. Our community allows these women to interactive with others like themselves. A safe non-judgmental space to explore, share meaningful interactions, connect and have unfiltered dialogue.
The intersection of race and sexuality can be interestingly complexed for women of color as they are inherently faced with many challenges. Studies show that bisexuals are the largest group in the LGBTQIA+ community. But with this said, they are the most invisible and underrepresented as their existence and legitimacy is often questioned or even denied by not only heterosexuals but also members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Women of color often struggle to find visibility and representation. In a sense, women of color that fall outside of the heteronormative box are often isolated. They fall subject to the internal and external cultural stigmas, taboos, microaggressions and stereotypes around gender, race, sexuality and sexual expression. “Straight”… But Not Narrow Ladies understands these cultural stigmas, taboos, microaggressions and stereotypes around sexuality, sexual fluidity, and sexual expression among women of color. We recognize how these factors present a need for discretion while our sisters explore their deeper truths. Our members only community supports this exploration without judgement. Our members are intimately connected to this truth and walk a similar path.
Communities of color are struggling with hunger, employment, violence, systemic racism and the residual effects of slavery, among other challenges. A place and a space to discuss sexual identity, curiosities or preferences is a privilege not afforded to many households. “Straight”… But Not Narrow Ladies recognizes the challenges and the need for safe spaces to discuss the aforementioned issues while creating meaningful connections. We strive to rewrite the toxic narrative of women of color, to empower them to own their truths and to support them in their search for liberation through open non-judgmental dialogue and curated events.
We are passionate about creating safe spaces for women of color. Our safe spaces manifest in curated virtual and in person events and experiences. Our curated events and experiences are dynamic. They are designed to cultivate, to empower and to support our community. Our SBNNL Sanctum events offering a sacred and sensual space to celebrate the power and magic of femininity that resides within women of color. Unapologetic, authentic, organic and meaningful connections to like-minded women of color. “Straight”… But Not Narrow Ladies, because sometimes girls that look “straight” aren’t.TM
